Position summary
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for verifying and processing all incoming and outgoing shipments while supporting the daily flow of materials throughout the facility. This role receives, inspects, and records inbound materials; prepares and packages outbound orders; maintains inventory accuracy; and ensures shipping and receiving documentation is completed accurately and on time. Working closely with Production, Purchasing, Quality, and external carriers, this position plays a vital role in supporting manufacturing operations and meeting customer delivery commitments.

Key responsibilities
  • Receive, unload, and unpack incoming materials; verify quantities and part numbers against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Inspect inbound shipments for visible damage or quality issues and report nonconformances or discrepancies promptly.
  • Accurately enter receipts into the ERP/WMS or inventory system and label materials with appropriate identification.
  • Pick, pack, and prepare customer and internal orders, including creating packing slips, delivery receipts, and shipping labels.
  • Arrange shipments with carriers (parcel, LTL, freight), obtain rate quotes when needed, and schedule pickups to meet required ship dates.
  • Track and trace outgoing shipments; update status and provide tracking information to internal stakeholders as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of all incoming and outgoing shipments, including bills of lading, packing lists, and freight documents.
  • Perform cycle counts and assist with physical inventories to reconcile and maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Keep the shipping and receiving areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety and 5S standards.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment in a safe manner, following all company and OSHA guidelines.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional logistics, warehouse, or inventory training a plus.
  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations preferred, ideally in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
  • Basic computer skills and/or familiarity with ERP/WMS systems and shipping platforms (e.g., UPS/FedEx portals).
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to compare documents and counts accurately and maintain clean records.
  • Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and verifying quantities; ability to read and understand work instructions, packing lists, and carrier documents.
  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach when working with production, purchasing, and carriers.

Physical and work environment requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift.
  • Regular lifting, pushing, and pulling of boxes and materials up to a specified weight (for example, 25 pounds), often repeatedly.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching while handling materials and organizing inventory.
  • Work performed primarily in a warehouse or production support environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
  • May require overtime and weekend work based on production schedules and customer demand.
